Bethune House Services

Hospital Visits

Legal and Medical Support

Each week, 6 to 7 migrants in distress seek Bethune House for assistance. Bethune provides help for these legal cases where it can and generally supports beneficiaries’ well-being for an average of two weeks to two months. However, some migrant women have stayed in the shelter for more than a year. We help migrants prepare for their cases and accompany them when possible to help them overcome some of the anxiety and newness of legal situations. We also provide medical support for migrants staying at Bethune House through hospital visits, consultations, and communal support through the recovery process.

Bethune House Stress Relief

Education and Stress Relief

Bethune House has pioneered a holistic approach in caring for migrant worker women while they are in the shelter. This includes contributing to individuals’ coping capacities and empowering and improving shelter residents’ psycho-social welfare. Bethune House provides classes in areas including English, computers, handicrafts, with the hope of giving migrant women a stronger general knowledge and practical skills. The shelter also tries to provide training to residents in areas such as first aid, child care, elderly care and dementia care. Bethune House also facilitates stress-reduction classes such as zumba, yoga, and volleyball.

Shelter and Provisions

Bethune House provides temporary shelter services, including food and accommodation, for women foreign domestic workers. At any given time, 25- 30 women foreign domestic workers in distress are served by the Bethune House in its two shelters. Different individuals have different reasons for needing temporary shelter in Hong Kong. The shelter is the home base for Bethune House’s clients. Bethune House aims to provide a safe, secure and supportive environment to these Asian migrant women in crisis as they work through their problems, navigate the justice and redress system in Hong Kong, and survive their varied hardships.
