Program Officer for Women’s Gender and Mental Health

Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge is a community-driven temporary shelter providing food and other assistance to help migrant women access justice and achieve empowerment. It is a registered charity in Hong Kong established in 1986.

We take care of Asian women migrants who have been discharged from or left employment due to various reasons such as long working hours, sexual and physical harassment, underpayment/ non- payment of wages, illegal work and illegal recruitment, or maltreatment. We also help raise their awareness on their conditions through education and training programs, cultural workshops, stress management workshops and the like. With the Covid -19 pandemic, women migrants in the shelters need support on their mental well-being, understanding issues of women as migrants, as mothers separated from her family and as workers in a foreign land.

To contribute to the planned sustainability and capacity building of Bethune House, we are looking for acommitted Program Officer for Women’s Gender Issues and Mental Health.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts training for Filipino women migrant workers on gender issues and mental health.

  • Coordinating legal support with pro-bono lawyers, as well as relevant government agencies and consulates on issues of women violence.

  • Court Case appearances.

  • Emergency Assistance and Rescues for cases where a MDW client is unable to leave the residence of the employer, coordinate police and consular support if needed

  • The Program Officer for Women’s Gender issues and Mental Health reports directly to the Executive Director

Job requirements:

  • Committed and passionate about migrants’ rights and women issues

  • Filipina Female with a social science background

  • Proficient in Excel and MS Office

  • Flexible, willing to learn, lead and work in a team as well as independently

  • Good command of both written and spoken Tagalog and English.

Salary offered:

HK$18,000 per month with MPF and other benefits under the HK labor ordinance
